This Advertising and Marketing degree course runs in 2016/17.

A sound knowledge of these complementary disciplines will enable you to fully understand your consumers and design creative communications which ensure they choose your brand over competitors.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

The combination of advertising and marketing brings together two specialist subjects, providing you with a sound underpinning of marketing communications techniques and an insight into consumer psychology and behaviour. This course aims to equip you with the expertise you need to understand the multi-faceted worlds of advertising and marketing and to take advantage of the wealth of exciting opportunities for graduate careers. It will offer you the opportunity to explore brand and corporate communications, creative advertising and global marketing as well as creating your own advertising and marketing campaigns.

If you choose this course you will benefit from:

  • current accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the opportunity to complete the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing;
  • a specialist honours degree in advertising and marketing;
  • excellent teaching by experienced lecturers who are research active, publish in top national and international journals and incorporate this into their teaching;
  • the opportunity to spend a year on a paid business placement in the UK or overseas (subject to application). Previous placements have included such companies as IBM, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Procter and Gamble, L’Oreal, Warner Brothers, 3M, BMW, Disney, Rolls Royce and Peugeot;
  • guest talks from academic experts and industry professionals;

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This degree provides a sound grounding in the following core themes:

Advertising: you will explore creative, strategic and applied concepts, analyse current advertisements and create your own campaigns.

Marketing: you will study concepts such as marketing research and strategy, as well as specialist options like digital marketing and corporate communications.

Communications: you will study concepts such as stakeholder communications and communications analysis techniques, in order to support your advertising practice.

Research: you will learn how to conduct both primary and secondary research and put your skills into practice by undertaking an independent and in-depth study of a marketing or advertising topic of your choice. This will form the basis of your final-year dissertation.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Your course will be based on a series of lectures and associated seminars, guest talks from relevant industry professionals, practical workshop classes and personal tutorials. You will also be allocated your own academic personal tutor who will meet you regularly to discuss your progress and guide you on a range of matters.
