An updated version of this course is available. For more information, click AAuthoring Rules in IBM WebSphere Operational/12/ision Management V7.5 (WB325).

This 3-day instructor-led course introduces policy managers and other business users to IBM WebSphere ILOG Rule Team Server V7.1, and teaches the concepts, processes, and procedures necessary to write, update, and maintain business rules.

Through instructor-led presentations, product demonstrations, and hands-on lab exercises, students learn the core features of IBM WebSphere ILOG Rule Team Server V7.1 and how to perform rule authoring tasks. These tasks include updating existing business rules to reflect changes in business policy and creating new business rules by using building blocks and vocabulary from the underlying business object model (BOM) to define variables and express rule condition and action statements. Students also learn how to create and update/12/ision tables, and how to use supporting features that simplify maintenance of rules, such as using the query features to locate specific rules, analyze them to look for potential problems, and make changes, and using the history feature to compare versions.

In addition, this course provides students with an in-depth look at rule authoring using Rule Team Server. A realistic case study is used throughout the course to demonstrate the principles of rule authoring. In hands-on exercises, students work with rules that are based on an actual business model, enabling them to experience some of the questions and issues that arise when users author rules that reflect complex business/12/isions and models. Students also closely examine the business case study and its underlying business object model (BOM) to understand how the BOM is reflected in the Rule Team Server user interface. The rule authoring exercises build upon each other, and show students how the BOM and user interface relate to each other when rules are authored.

This course is not suitable for students who have already completed the 5-day course Capturing and Authoring Business Rules in IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules V7.1 (WB308).

Note: While IBM WebSphere ILOG Rule Team Server is used as the primary authoring tool throughout this course, skills mastered in this course are easily transferable to authoring rules in IBM WebSphere ILOG Rule Studio.
