It will focuses on the assessment, monitoring, and management of cardiac disorders. It's suitable for graduate practitioners working in areas such as coronary care units, both medical and surgical cardiac wards, investigational units and critical care areas. In order to receive care that is effective and of high quality the patient with a cardiac disorder is dependent upon practitioners being skilled in the recognition of arrhythmia and the analysis of 12 lead ECGs. This module is a theory/practice module in which you will learn both in the classroom and in the practice area. Learning and teaching methods in the classroom will include a variety of methods such as lectures, seminars, group work, etc. Learning and teaching in clinical practice will be under the supervision of an experienced practitioner and qualified mentor within your own clinical area.
- Cardiac RehabilitationCardiac rehabilitation is the process by which patients with cardiac disease are encouraged and supported by a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals to achieve and maintain optimal physical and psychosocial health. Research has shown that comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation reduces deaths and improves quality of life for people with heart disease. Other benefits include a reduction in recurrent myocardial infarction and unplanned costly readmissions to hospital. The emphasis now, is moving towards early cardiac rehabilitation, beginning within two weeks of discharge or diagnosis. Starting rehabilitation early has been shown to be effective in improving adherence and patient uptake. The delivery of these elements requires health care practitioners to have the necessary knowledge and skills in order to effectively and efficiently to those individuals. Investment in the delivery of existing cardiac rehabilitation programmes will enable opportunities for growth and development within this area of cardiovascular health and wellbeing.
There are two modules which make up this postgraduate certificate. For the cardiac care module you’ll be assessed from both a theoretical and practical perspective, through a 4,000 word assignment and an oral assessment (Viva). You’ll also be assessed in your practice through your achievement of clinical competencies at expert level.
The second module, cardiac rehabilitation, is assessed through an assignment of 3,000 words.
