A Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc., 180 ECTS, equivalent to three years full-time study in any field of natural sciences or engineering of a university) or an equivalent or higher university degree is necessary for admission. A Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History and Economics opens the admission for the specialisations in "Economics" and "Economic, Social and Environmental History" only. The bachelor’s degree must not be older than 10 years

Master thesis (60 ECTS)
The M.Sc. programme emphasizes strong and competitive research. Consequently, an extended 60 ECTS master's thesis is part of the curriculum. You will have the opportunity to work in the research group of your supervisor in a research project in one of the nine participating research units at the University of Bern. The master's thesis is usually written in English and may consist of a research article in an international journal. Depending on your career plans you may wish to carry out an internship (30 ECTS) at another university and write a 30 ECTS master's thesis at the University of Bern.
Your B.Sc. training must be completed and certified as of 31st July to enter the M.Sc. programme starting mid September. You may apply for the M.Sc. programme if you have completed and certified 150 ECTS at the date of your application.
