    Master

  • Ort

    Frankfurt am main

  • Dauer

    2 Jahre

The primary goal of our M.Sc. program is training students in the natural sciences for computer-based research and development. The program targets outstanding students with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Geoscience or Physics, but is equally open to exceptional students with a degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering who also have a strong background in one of the natural sciences. Building on the common platform of mathematical and methodological expertise acquired during the Bachelor's studies, the Master's program leads students towards the current state-of-the-art of research, both with respect to their specific field within the natural sciences and with respect to computational techniques:

  • On the one hand, the program supplements the more elementary and broad Bachelor's education in one of the natural sciences. A step by step specialization leads the students to the state-of-the-art in one particular area of current research. The field of specialization is left to the student's choice, a variety of options being offered. In this respect, Computational Science provides the same level of training as a Master's program in one of the natural sciences, restricted, however, to the theoretical branch. On the other hand, the program teaches selected basic knowledge in applied mathematics and computer science and deepens this knowledge in those areas which are of particular relevance for science and technology. The program is thus intended for students who want to acquire the modern and often indispensable tool of scientific computing for subsequent work in their original field of science. The Master's program particularly focuses on students who want to prepare themselves for PhD studies in the theoretical natural sciences (including the life sciences).

  • At the same time the comparatively broad education in applied mathematics and computer science together with the interdisciplinary curriculum ensure a high degree of flexibility in the employability of the graduates. The M.Sc. in Computational Science is well prepared for entering non-traditional careers. The program thus also targets students who are primarily out for a methodological training, in order to apply the methods in a non-scientific environment.

  • In addition, the modular structure of the program allows its utilization for supplementary training of professionals via part-time studies.

Computational Science is a two-year program, building on a three-year Bachelor's degree. Of course, four-year Bachelor's graduates are also encouraged to continue their studies in Frankfurt. In this case all suitable credits will be recognized.

Der Master-Abschluss entspricht in Frankfurt mindestens dem traditionellen Diplom. Den Absolventen wir daher auf Antrag eine Diplom-Äquivalenzbescheinigung ausgehändigt.

The deadline for application is: July 15, 2010

Der Studienbeginn ist im Wintersemester möglich. Der Studienordnung liegt eine Regelstudienzeit von 4 Semestern zugrunde.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Preisinformation: There will be no tuition fee ("Studienbeitrag") in the Winter Term 2009/10. However, Goethe University asks for a Term Fee ("Semestergebühr") which is due upon registration for each individual term. For the Winter Term 2009/10 this fee amounts to 264.00 EURO. It covers free public transportation in the complete Rhein-Main area and beyond (including, for instance, the city of Marburg, which is 90 km from Frankfurt) and student meals at reduced prices.
