What you will study?
The course gives you an in depth understanding of computer network design, implementation and optimisation. You'll model, monitor and analyse networks in various situations, simulating performance and availability to configure them for optimum performance. You will also focus on cloud based networks and the course explores modern data centres, virtualisation and distributed storage.

More generally, the degree looks at network design and construction, programming and operating systems and network troubleshooting in a business environment. In addition to the expertise you build up in the subject, the course will improve your mathematical, problem solving, teamwork, communication, time management and critical skills.

There are seven compulsory modules plus a research methods module which complements your independent project. This is a major part of the course, worth a third of your overall mark, whereby you produce a piece of original research relevant to the industry – either using existing or emerging technology to solve a practical problem, or extending the theoretical understanding of new technology.
