Graduates of the MSc in Green Mobility Engineering are able to meet the requirements of future mobility systems regarding the conservation of natural resources and environment protection as well as social acceptance. They are able to drive the re-orientation regarding energy and utilization efficiency, zero emission level, neutral CO2-balance, safety, comfort and affordability through which they can supplement and replace existing technologies. MSc in Green Mobility Engineering-students acquire an extensive and structured system-knowledge, divided into the subsystems automotive (with its components, functional elements and materials), driver, traffic, infrastructure, markets and society. They are capable of analyzing complex systems by taking relevant interdependencies between subsystems and level of details into account and deriving approaches for sustainable mobility and automotive concepts. Methods and processes needed for an efficient development of technical, economical and successful innovative solutions in the market are familiar to the graduates. For this purpose, MSc in Green Mobility Engineering students will attain knowledge, skills, capabilities and competencies in the fields of energy efficient combustion machines, regenerative fuels, energy sources and storages, safe and efficient propulsion systems, efficient use of available energy in the car, lightweight design, control and regulation concepts, architectures and technologies, E-Engines, power electronics, embedded electronic systems, sensor data processing, production systems for electro mobility, drivability, models of human behavior, noise and vibration comfort, advanced driver assistance systems, car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication systems, automated perception of environment by cars, autonomous vehicles, mobility supply and demand, holistic CO2-balance and smart supply of energy.
• Appropriate qualification for university entrance: Bachelor, Master, Diplom-FH, Diplom Univ., Diplom BA, Maîtrise, D.E.A. etc.; The first degree should be in the field of engineering, natural sciences, information science or economics. In exceptional circumstances other degrees may be accepted. • Job experience: At least three years of work or practical experience in the specific field of the course. Mobility will continue to influence our daily life to a great extend. In the US one third of all energy is consumed by issues concerning mobility. Traffic nearly causes 20% of Europe´s total CO2 emissions. Thus, it is inevitable to develop environmentally friendly mobility systems to impose minimal disturbance to our climate and the environment.
Automotive companies worldwide are striving to develop vehicles that will allow us to save energy and protect our environment while staying mobile and independent at the same time. They have started to develop new technologies, new production methods and strategies to manage the growing amount of traffic properly. To tackle those challenges it requires globally thinking engineers and managers who are capable to combine competences in mechanical and electrical engineering with excellent know how in economics, business management and law.
Therefore, a "Green Mobility Engineering" master program has been designed at the KIT in Karlsruhe as an interdisciplinary program centered around energy management and mechatronics for the use in automotive applications. It draws on the long engineering tradition in Karlsruhe where Carl Benz, the inventor of the automobile, has received his academic education. Today the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a worldwide landmark of engineering research and education.
Green Mobility Engineering will empower students to understand and successfully manage the most important technologies that will enable the automotive industry to master the challenges ahead. With the completion of the program - having earned a M.Sc. of the KIT- participants are well positioned to fill the urgent demand for specialists and leadership positions in this rapidly growing field of "green" technologies and applications.
