Das Beste Everything was excellent, contennt, instructor, provider. Just great! I was very motivated to follow aerospace engineering at university, and now I just can't wait to get started! This was very interesting, cool and motivating.

Zu verbessern Nothing bad.

Das Beste This was a tough introductory course by EdEx standards, with a strong emphasis on derivation of equations, so I suspect it had a high drop-out rate for students not expecting the amount of maths involved. I now have a real appreciation of the important aspects of aircraft design and flight. The course would be improved by the provision of a set of course notes (not just lecture transcripts) and faster responses to questions on the discussion board.

Zu verbessern No negative aspects.

Themenkreis

This course provides an overview of and introduction to the fundamentals of aeronautics, using the history of aviation as a story line. The course uses examples from the very beginning of aviation (the Montgolfier brothers’ balloon flight in 1783 and the Wright brothers’ heavier-than-air flight in 1903) and continues all the way through to the current Airbus A380 and future aircraft. During this trajectory three major topics are discussed: aeronautics, aerodynamics and flight mechanics.

Lectures are frequently accompanied by related exercises and demonstrations. The course also incorporates (design) challenges/competitions, based on the knowledge obtained through the lectures.

What you'll learn

  • A general introduction to aeronautics
  • Detailed knowledge of aerodynamics
  • A specific understanding of flight performance
