Das Beste I enrolled in this course having some familiarity with Linux but not much. Like many others I had high hopes for this course. This course consists of just under 20 "chapters" covering the various aspects of Linux. However calling them chapters is a stretch. They could each probably be fit on less than 2 pages of paper. After going through the first few chapters I realized this course was very simple and almost unnecessary. For example, they had multiple videos on how to change the desktop background. (Hint: It's basically the same process as a windows computer.) The only graded work in the whole MOOC is the 30 question final exam. After the 4th "chapter" I decided to just skip to the exam because I couldn't stand the course. I passed rather easily despite not knowing anything about Linux servers or bash scripting. Overall I am disappointed in the course. I was expecting it to be challenging and much more in-depth. (That' not to say you wouldn't learn anything from it if you do take it.) In addition given that the verified certificate is $250, it appears that this course is more about making money than really teaching people. I am somewhat disappointed in edX for even offering it given their normal standard for a course.

Das Beste Even though the course might seem shallow, it covers a wide variety of topics. Sometimes it is scratching important stuff while it is explaining stuff, like vim, in way too much detail, which probably is a useful text editor for some, but it's complexity would require a whole separate course and certification. The scripted, and made just like the original environment pages, that help you type in exercises, are a nice touch, but not the most user friendlier things I have ever seen. Oh, and those intro videos at each chapter... the cameraman should be punished for it! :P

Zu verbessern Nothing bad.

Develop a good working knowledge of Linux using both the graphical interface and command line, covering the major Linux distribution families. Linux powers 94% of the world’s supercomputers, most of the servers powering the Internet, the majority of financial trades worldwide and a billion Android devices. In short, Linux is everywhere. It appears in many different architectures, from mainframes to server to desktop to mobile and on a staggeringly wide variety of hardware. Moreover, 97 percent of hiring managers reported that they will prioritize hiring Linux talent relative to other skills areas in the next six months, and 44 percent of hiring managers saying they’re more likely to hire a candidate with Linux certification. This course explores the various tools and techniques commonly used by Linux system administrators and end users to achieve their day-to-day work in a Linux environment. It is designed for experienced computer users who have limited or no previous exposure to Linux, whether they are working in an individual or Enterprise environment. Upon completion of this training you should have a good working knowledge of Linux, from both a graphical and command line perspective, allowing you to easily navigate through any of the major Linux distributions. You will be able to continue your progress as either a user, system administrator or developer using the acquired skill set. Join the 250,000+ students who are already enrolled in this course and start your Linux journey.
