Recently concluding my Master degree in the European program Europhotonics, Photonics engineering, nanophotonics and biophotonics. I have been developing my master tesis in the Astronomy Institute of Mexico City, working in the optical instrumentation department in the Optimization of a Shack-Hartmann Wave-front sensor of an astronomical Adaptive Optics system that will be installed in the largest telescope of Mexico in the National Observatory of San Pedro Mártir.

In the Faculty of Pharmacy teachers told me about the master. The human aspect of these elite international studies gives you the opportunity to meet lots of people interested in your same interests. It also provided a very comprehensive internship program from the first semester in Barcelona.

My name is Andrea and I was an AFEPA student from 2010-2012 so I´m the first generation graduate. I was born in Slovakia. After Bachelor studies at the Slovak University of Agriculture (Nitra, Slovakia), I decided to apply for AFEPA. My destinations were Uppsala and Budapest. ¿What's the best? Firstly, the friendship and cultural sharing. I met some great people during those two years and they made my life special. In fact, they also changed me. Everything passed so quickly and now (six months after everything is over) my mind is pulsing with a strange feeling of nostalgia. Secondly, the professional background. I found out in which direction I want to lead my life and what I want to do. I got a real passion for rural development issues, specially related to the Central European region from where I come from and where I was born. Thirdly, the independence and personal development. I’ve learnt to COOK! I’ve learnt to manage my monthly budget and I’ve learnt to take care of myself hundreds/thousands kilometers away from home.

My name is Andrea and I was an AFEPA student from 2010-2012 so I´m the first generation graduate. I was born in Slovakia. Soon, after the examination of my thesis in front of the international jury on the 16th of June 2007 in Muséum Nationale d’Histoire Naturelle (France), I had an opportunity to enroll in the office of the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Indonesia to UNESCO. Since then, I have been an assistant to the Ambassador of the Indonesian Delegation to UNESCO, and I also have been a student in the doctoral degree at MNHN. There are contrasts but I found the interface for myself. From the substantive matters as well as administrative and secretariat matters in my office, I have the opportunity to learn what happened with a big dream like UNESCO: a dynamic of multilateral cooperation, substantive matters in cultural sector and world heritage management, having the opportunity to meet with the decision makers from my country in the office (they are the bureaucrats and the legislators) and learn to use different working languages and office tools (informatics, archiving). For my studies, my working group in MNHN has understood that my days were busy with administrative matters but by all means we were working together for our scientific matters and net

The knowledge that I have about the European country and their system is a valuable asset for me as a person who came from Africa. It’s a great opportunity to study abroad, to know more advance sciences and to absorb the values of European culture. Everything is well organised and personal problems are paid great attention. It will definitely help since my background is forestry and natural resource management and I have worked in this field in Nepal and in India. Now this Masters in European forestry will help me to be influential in the European arena. European countries are doing much more in the forestry sector. But, in developing countries forest protection and the livelihood of the people is only one theme of forest management. So, I would like to learn how we could manage our forest as productive forest commercially in a sustainable manner.

The knowledge that I have about the European country and their system is a valuable asset for me as a person who came from Africa. It’s a great opportunity to study abroad, to know more advance sciences and to absorb the values of European culture. Everything is well organised and personal problems are paid great attention. I am an Erasmus Mundus masters student in mathematical engineering (MATHMODS) at University of Gdansk (Poland), presently performing my Master Thesis in Institute of Computational Physics, Universität Stuttgart, Germany. for my MSc, I chose an interdisciplinary program with strong roots in engineering mathematics. The exposure to abstract mathematical subjects has provided me considerable background to explore topics like Classical Simulation, Computational Nanotechnology and DFT techniques during my master’s program. I have also acquired experimental experience in using scanning electron microscope, during my one semester stay in LMR lab (Tours-France). I have performed fatigue and fracture analysis of steel. As a Mechanical Engineer I posses commendable cleanroom experience, since I had to perform various experimental studies during my coursework. I am currently doing my Master Thesis in the field of Computational Biophysics in ICP.
