What you will Study You will gain the skills required to complete the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy, including Health & Safety, reception duties, facials, waxing, manicure, pedicure, eye treatments, client care and make up. Units are subject to change. Maths and English (and sometimes IT) are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels. Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C. This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.
How you will Learn You will be assessed at College one day or evening per week and undertake both theory and practical modules of study. Some training and assessment may take place in the workplace and some home study will be required.
How you will be Assessed Assessment will be continuous through oral and written tests, assignments and practical work. Practical assessment will take place on real clients in College and an assessor will visit you in the salon to monitor your progress. Certification will be accredited on completion of your portfolio of evidence and achievement of Functional Skills.
