Before taking this course, students should be able to: • Log in and out of an OpenVMS system • Use DCL to issue commands • Create a file using the EVE-editor • Use commands to look at, copy and manipulate files • Understand the use of UIC protection codes to secure files and data • Create and navigate directory structures. Gerichtet an: Technical support staff with little or no experience in managing OpenVMS systems that may be part of larger networks and/or OpenVMS Clusters.

- Identify various OpenVMS Configurations
- Describe the characteristics of an OpenVMS Cluster System
- Describe the characteristics of a network and list basic network management tasks
- Describe OpenVMS software concepts
- Access local and global symbol tables
- Use symbols in command lines
- Use terminal I/O to communicate with the user
- Use symbols as variables and parameters
- Control the flow of execution in a command procedure
- Redirect input and output to a file
- Obtain and manipulate information with commonly used lexical functions
- Write command procedures that perform file I/O
- Detect and handle errors and Ctrl/Y interrupts
- Use the Authorize Utility
- Use the SHOW and LIST commands of the Authorize utility to list user accounts
- Add a user to the system
- Remove a user from the system
- Manage and monitor user processes
- Manage the use of disk space
- Identify the different types of queues
- Monitor queues and job status
- Stop and Start a queue
- Change the characteristics of a queue
- Manage jobs in a queue
- Define backup terms, list things to be considered when planning backups, and construct a BACKUP command
- Make backups of a disk to tape
