Das Beste: In the Faculty of Pharmacy teachers told me about the master. The human aspect of these elite international studies gives you the opportunity to meet lots of people interested in your same interests. It also provided a very comprehensive internship program from the first semester in Barcelona.

Das Beste: The exceptional experience with international students, with varying cultures and traditions, was for me one of the richest experience in my academic career, not only academically but also personally. Having the opportunity to transmit my experience about laboratory accreditation, the day-to-day contact established by students they have proven to be a group of outstanding persons, was amazing!

Das Beste: I am an Erasmus Mundus masters student in mathematical engineering (MATHMODS) at University of Gdansk (Poland), presently performing my Master Thesis in Institute of Computational Physics, Universität Stuttgart, Germany. for my MSc, I chose an interdisciplinary program with strong roots in engineering mathematics. The exposure to abstract mathematical subjects has provided me considerable background to explore topics like Classical Simulation, Computational Nanotechnology and DFT techniques during my master’s program. I have also acquired experimental experience in using scanning electron microscope, during my one semester stay in LMR lab (Tours-France). I have performed fatigue and fracture analysis of steel. As a Mechanical Engineer I posses commendable cleanroom experience, since I had to perform various experimental studies during my coursework. I am currently doing my Master Thesis in the field of Computational Biophysics in ICP.

Das Beste: As part of my Erasmus Mundus Master in Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology degree, I am completing my internship period at Organization & Management Solutions (OMS) in Guelph, Canada. After having been emerged in the field head to toe for the last two years, it was amazing to discover how many aspects, areas and directions of I/O psychology I was still unaware of.

Programme Director

Teresa Fernandes, Professor of Environmental Science, studies the fate of contaminants in natural systems and their effects on species and communities. She is particularly interested in ecosystem health, links with human health, and management of risk. Specific subjects of her research have included oil, aquaculture, organic enrichment, endocrine disruptors and nanomaterials. Another important aspect of Teresa's research is the management of aquatic and coastal systems, and the integration of science and policy for the sustainable management of natural systems.

Themenkreis

The Masters course has a total of 120 ECTS. There are two main components: first a fully integrated taught (Curricular) part of 60 ECTS credits (one year); second a research project leading to a thesis dissertation of 60 ECTS credits (one year). The course is hosted in turn at the European member institutions in subsequent years.

Staff dealing with the regulation of chemicals need an integrated, interdisciplinary view of the lifecycle of chemical substances: the Design, including the most recent technology for the production of alternative materials; the Industry, including a solid understanding of the current economy of chemical industry and the requirements for implementation of new processes; the Market, including understanding the social perception of the risk of chemicals; the Assessment, including a deep understanding of the mechanisms of environmental and human toxicity of chemicals and of the most advanced techniques to evaluate it; and the Regulation, including a thorough knowledge of European and non-European legislation related to the use of chemicals.

The EMMC ChIR covers these five fields essential to understand chemical regulation:
  • Design of chemical products;
  • Industrial implementation of chemical processes;
  • Marketing of chemical substances;
  • Assessment of risks, including toxicological and environmental assessment;
  • International Regulations.
