This course requires you to use your own computing device with the Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X operating system. You download and configure freely available software as part of the hands-on exercises. At the end of the course, you have a working runtime environment that you can continue to use.
This course introduces the WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile and covers installation and configuration. It describes WebSphere Development Tools and how to use them to administer a Liberty profile server along with command-line scripts. The course also explains the Admin Center and Liberty Repository and how to use them to manage a Liberty environment.
This course is similar to course Working with Liberty Profile on Bluemix (BYOE) (VY103G). The differences between the two courses are:
- Working with WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5.2 Liberty Profile (BYOE) - WBT (VY583G) includes an additional unit about working with Liberty Profile on z/OS
- The VY583G exercises use your computing device exclusively, but the VY103G exercises use your device as a staging environment for running the Liberty profile on Bluemix.
- VY583G walks you through setting up a complete development environment that includes Eclipse, while VY103G emphasizes IBM Cloud environment.
- VY103G uses the DevOps environment (previously known as Jazzhub) for code development, build, and deploy to Bluemix.
In this course, you learn how to deploy applications and configure resources such as data sources and JMS messaging. The course covers topics such as flexible configuration, security, monitoring and tuning, and troubleshooting. The course also describes the Liberty Profile for z/OS, along with Liberty features that are specific to z/OS.
Lab exercises are provided for installing Eclipse and adding the WebSphere Development Tools (WDT). There are also exercises for installing Liberty Profile, creating application servers, and deploying applications.
