The EU's Security Architecture: Reshaping EU Policing and Counter Terrorism

The Seminar aims to provide a structured and up to date introduction to the EU’s internal security architecture, which has changed significantly over the last years, with a focus on police cooperation and counter terrorism. Students will be introduced to the main actors and venues of EU policing and policymaking as well as to key policies and operational measures in these areas. Specific attention will be paid to the international dimension of cooperation, i.e. the external dimension of police and counter terrorism cooperation (e.g. cooperation with the USA, with Maghreb countries, with other EU bodies in the field of foreign policy). The overarching goal of the seminar is to identify the core characteristics, dynamics and long-term trends in the evolution of international policing and counter terrorism cooperation.
