In this three-day instructor-led course, students learn the advanced skills needed to tune the runtime performance of IBM WebSphere Process Server V7. It is often necessary to configure the WebSphere Process Server system beyond the default settings in order to improve runtime performance. For example, Service Component Architecture (SCA) solutions with human task components may introduce a different performance bottleneck than solutions without human tasks. In this course, students build on the WebSphere Process Server skills developed by completing course Administration of IBM WebSphere Process Server V7 (WB722)(VB722). This course starts by introducing a tuning checklist that lists the major WebSphere Process Server components and their associated configuration properties. Students learn about the various configuration parameters available to system administrators, and how knowledge of configuration settings is necessary for improving the runtime performance of WebSphere Process Server. The course provides hints and tips on configuring WebSphere Process Server through in-depth discussions of each SCA component. Students also learn about the WebSphere Process Server capacity planning process. Hands-on exercises throughout the course reinforce lecture content, and enable students to gain direct experience with WebSphere Process Server performance tuning techniques by working with the runtime performance of each binding type. The exercises also allow students to see a number of different configuration parameter settings as they navigate through the administration console. Finally, students are introduced to the Tivoli Performance Viewer, and learn how to use it to monitor the runtime performance of an SCA application. After completing this course, students will have a solid foundation in best practices for tuning WebSphere Process Server, as well as the skills to diagnose performance problems, such as Java memory issues.
