KURSINHALT
Learn technical aspects of DS4000 and DS5000 storage systems products and how they relate to performance within a SAN topology. You will have the opportunity to adjust tunable parameters to achieve optimal performance. You will use I/O-generating and measuring tools for performance labs. _x000D_
_x000D_
This course is designed to teach the skills necessary to analyze input/output from servers and make changes to storage systems to optimize performance. This course concentrates on storage system configuration and tunable parameters.Themenübersicht
Module 1: Data storage
- Address and label a typical block storage space
- Track an I/O from inception to storage on a RAID system
- Compare and contrast the typical characteristics of an IOPS environment with those of a throughput environment
- Use the appropriate I/O measurement tool to measure storage performance on an array
- Use a system performance utility to measure storage performance on a system
- Establish a baseline for performance measurements
- Follow a scientific approach to changing storage performance variables
- Declare when performance goals have either been reached or cannot be reached
- Correlate the four primary parameters governing drive performance to specific I/O characteristics
- Calculate performance statistics when given certain drive parameters
- Calculate and configure the optimum number of drives for an IOPS environment given certain parameters
- Calculate and configure the optimum number of drives for a throughput environment given certain parameters
- Measure the effect of using a different number of drives for a given application
- Measure the effect of using different RAID levels with the same I/O load
- Match customer demand to an appropriate RAID level
- Measure the effect of using different segment sizes with the same I/O load
- Properly align and test segment size for an IOPS environment
- Properly align and test segment size for a throughput environment
- Measure the effect of different storage system cache settings on I/O performance with a given I/O profile
- Choose the most efficient cache block size for a given I/O profile
- Eliminate hardware bottlenecks in a IBM DS4000 / DS5000 storage system via drive and volume assignment
- Balance multiple I/O requests on a single IBM DS4000 / DS5000 storage system to produce the best average performance
- Design and implement a complete and efficient storage configuration for a given application load
