Qualification Contents – Level 1: Competent Person for Event Rigging according to IGVW SQQ 2

The content of the qualification courses for event rigging competence depends on the qualification level. The modules include both theoretical and practical components. A prerequisite is a solid command of the following mathematical fundamentals:

• Trigonometry

• Solving equations

6.1 Level 1 Qualification ContentsLegal Foundations

• Apply legal sources related to:

  • Basic requirements for occupational safety and working hours

  • Rigging-relevant regulations from statutory accident insurance providers

  • Requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Necessity of risk assessments

  • Requirement for inspection of work equipment (Occupational Safety Ordinance)

Electrotechnical Fundamentals

• Identify hazards from electrical current

• Understand effects on the human body

• Follow safety rules (e.g., the five safety rules) when handling electrical equipment

• Understand basics of AC and three-phase current

• Consider protection classes and ratings

• Know the necessity of potential equalization

• Know protective measures and their functions (overcurrent protection, residual current devices, motor protection switches)

• Use CEE connectors

Statics Fundamentals

• Represent forces graphically (vectors, polygon method for cables)

• Calculate the following for loads in statically determinate systems:

  • Support reactions

  • Section forces (normal force, shear force, bending moment)

  • Member forces in simple trusses

  • Cable forces in two-leg bridles

• Understand support reactions for multi-span beams

Technical Work Equipment – Theory

• Know specific requirements for:

  • Slings and lifting accessories

  • Load-bearing devices

  • Trusses (IGVW SQP1)

  • Hoists (IGVW SQP2)

  • Work platforms

  • Scaffolding and ladders

• Know rigging-specific symbols and markings

Technical Work Equipment – Practice

• Select and dimension slings

• Perform basic sling configurations (basket, choke, etc.)

• Assemble trusses

• Rig trusses

• Conduct visual inspections of work equipment

• Master work-related knots

• Mount hoists and necessary secondary safety measures

• Operate hoist controls

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Theory

• Select required PPE and components based on risk assessment and operating instructions

• Know proper use of fall protection PPE

• Understand requirements for storage, maintenance, and inspection of fall protection PPE

• Know physical fundamentals of falls from height

• Consider information on orthostatic shock (suspension trauma) and accident behavior

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Practice

• Select, adjust, and put on PPE

• Perform visual inspection of PPE before use

• Use PPE in various work situations (especially for positioning at the workplace)

• Master work-related knots for PPE

• Anchor to designated anchor points or fall arrest systems
