The doctoral program consists of two major parts : the pre-dissertation stage and the dissertation stage. The objective of the pre-dissertation stage is to provide the student with the theoretical foundations and practices of the primary and supporting fields of study and with a command of relevant qualitative methods of research and analysis. The purpose of the primary field of study is to give the student an in-depth specialization and expertise in a selected field. Study in the primary field represents a student’s major theoretical, practical and research concerns in his or her doctoral program. Activities associated with the primary field should contribute to a logical, consistent, and comprehensive study plan. These activities are designed with the assistance of a primary field faculty adviser.

ACCOUNTANCY :
The Doctorate in this field is designed to enhance knowledge of practice and theory by in-depth analysis of issues in accounting measurement and reporting.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION :
The Doctorate in Business Administration combines a broad knowledge of business with a focus in one of the below-mentioned areas. Through a combination of prior academic work, substantial practical experience, and the doctoral study plan activities, students must demonstrate a working knowledge of the principal content areas of Business Administration.

  • Finance and Investments :
    This area focuses on the financial theory and its practical application. The student chooses an emphasis in business finance, capital markets or investments.
  • International Business :
    This area is designed to enable individuals to develop a global perspective on industry and government. Formal course work, combined with individualized research and other learning experiences, is designed to develop both theoretical and pragmatic expertise.
  • Marketing :
    This area assists students in acquiring the analytical and conceptual abilities needed both to teach marketing and to apply marketing expertise to problems faced by executives. Formal course work, independent readings, research and experiential learning build competence in the areas of research methods, marketing communication, marketing strategy, planning and the marketing environment.

MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION :
The Doctorate in this field is broadly concerned with organizational, managerial and leadership processes in organizations of all kinds, private, domestic or international. The field encompasses both a strong focus on effective teaching and research and a commitment to effective action in real-world situations.

DOCTORAL PROGRAM DESIGN :
The doctoral program consists of two major parts : the pre-dissertation stage and the dissertation stage. The objective of the pre-dissertation stage is to provide the student with the theoretical foundations and practices of the primary and supporting fields of study and with a command of relevant qualitative methods of research and analysis. The objective of the dissertation stage is for the student to apply the theoretical and practical knowledge and analytic methods to the resolution of research program.

THE PRE-DISSERTATION STAGE – THE STUDY PLAN :
The study plan is a description of how the student’s educational interest and objectives will be pursued during enrollment in the Doctorate program.

The students have to take the following classes :

  • Management - Finance
  • Economics - Marketing Strategy
  • Advanced Accounting - Human Resource Management
  • Managing Change - Managing Product Development
  • Competition and Markets

Each course takes 3 days and is given in a seminar form (3 eight hour sessions). The study plan is unique in placing so much emphasis on the student’s educational activities in relation to longer-range personal and career goals. It tailors the doctoral activities to student’s interests as well as faculty requirements. Students are urged to be imaginative and innovative in their study and to confine planned activities to the classroom. Independent research, publication, consulting, travel and teaching are but a few of the different activities that, if properly developed and presented, may be approved by the Committee on Doctoral Studies.

THE DISSERTATION STAGE :
The objective of the dissertation stage is to demonstrate that the student has synthesized the knowledge gained during the pre-dissertation stage and is able to apply this knowledge to the resolution of a substantial problem.

The dissertation stage consists of five major activities :

  • 2 doctoral concentration seminars
  • 3 dissertation seminars
  • Development and defense of proposal
  • Research execution
  • The final dissertation approval
The candidate is required to attend a final oral examination on the dissertation. The jury consists of external examiners, who are experts in the field as well as senior academics.
The program takes a minimum of two years. Students have 3 possible intakes : October, January, March.
