The purpose of the programme is to educate managers for the international construction industry by facilitating mobility and by developing skills and attitudes with regard to construction, culture and language.

In order to develop the attributes for future international construction managers, the MSc ICM programme is a multi-national programme requiring students to live in at least three countries and to use one language other than their own.

The course is taught and assessed in English, although the occasional lecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe may be given in German. Although language tuition is not provided as an integral part of the course language tuition in English a German is available at all partner institutions to suit all levels of ability.

The MSc International Construction Management degree by 1 year full-time study is delivered jointly by Nottingham Trent University, Waterford Institute of Technology and Hochschule Karlsruhe - Technik und Wirtschaft.

The course takes place over 45 academic weeks starting in Nottingham at the beginning of October. The course finishes in mid-September of the following year, thus taking an overall duration of 12 months.

Students undertake their studies at each institution in turn during terms 1 to 3. Term 4 is undertaken at one of the institutions of the students choice. A period of time is included at the start of terms 1 to 3 at each institution to allow for induction and orientation.

The construction manager is seen as the professional who manages construction project realization for the construction organisation, or as a construction consultant to the client organisation. Construction managers are employed by many construction organisations to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to functional requirements and standards. Such construction managers are able to encourage improved client organization practices and innovation in construction project provision.
