Recently concluding my Master degree in the European program Europhotonics, Photonics engineering, nanophotonics and biophotonics. I have been developing my master tesis in the Astronomy Institute of Mexico City, working in the optical instrumentation department in the Optimization of a Shack-Hartmann Wave-front sensor of an astronomical Adaptive Optics system that will be installed in the largest telescope of Mexico in the National Observatory of San Pedro Mártir.

My name is Andrea and I was an AFEPA student from 2010-2012 so I´m the first generation graduate. I was born in Slovakia. After Bachelor studies at the Slovak University of Agriculture (Nitra, Slovakia), I decided to apply for AFEPA. My destinations were Uppsala and Budapest. ¿What's the best? Firstly, the friendship and cultural sharing. I met some great people during those two years and they made my life special. In fact, they also changed me. Everything passed so quickly and now (six months after everything is over) my mind is pulsing with a strange feeling of nostalgia. Secondly, the professional background. I found out in which direction I want to lead my life and what I want to do. I got a real passion for rural development issues, specially related to the Central European region from where I come from and where I was born. Thirdly, the independence and personal development. I’ve learnt to COOK! I’ve learnt to manage my monthly budget and I’ve learnt to take care of myself hundreds/thousands kilometers away from home.

QEM has equipped me with various tools in advanced methodologies and models in economics and the possibility of connecting ideas from financial modeling, game theory and econometrics to modeling life situations. These experiences has instilled in me the interest for research and further study. Through QEM, I am now familiar with some European cultures and languages.

Further, they are very approachable and motivating, especially in pursuing deeper knowledge and experience in food science. I am an Erasmus Mundus masters student in mathematical engineering (MATHMODS) at University of Gdansk (Poland), presently performing my Master Thesis in Institute of Computational Physics, Universität Stuttgart, Germany. for my MSc, I chose an interdisciplinary program with strong roots in engineering mathematics. The exposure to abstract mathematical subjects has provided me considerable background to explore topics like Classical Simulation, Computational Nanotechnology and DFT techniques during my master’s program. I have also acquired experimental experience in using scanning electron microscope, during my one semester stay in LMR lab (Tours-France). I have performed fatigue and fracture analysis of steel. As a Mechanical Engineer I posses commendable cleanroom experience, since I had to perform various experimental studies during my coursework. I am currently doing my Master Thesis in the field of Computational Biophysics in ICP.
